Good stuff this week..personally anyhow. The nation continues to be crapped on but my little corner of the world seems to be working.
Entered the 21st century sort of. My local Red Cross has incentives to donate platelets regularly ad recognizes the yearly 15 and 20 donation milestones. I now have a proper 21st century computer monitor. Buh bye to the 17" horking big heavy CRT. It was a nice monitor back in 1999. I really like this 19" widescreen LCD better. And yay for me. My "donation year" runs from January to January - and last Saturday I "maxed" at 24 for the year and was put on hiatus for a month or so.
This from AggravatedDocSurg is one of the reasons I donate all I can. And this is another interesting platelet factoid/research. Whatta ya know. I'm probably more resistant to malaria than many. Not that Port City USA has seen malaria for a good hunnert years or so. And unfortunately, due to the extreme perishability of platelets - our best hope is that scientists can isolate exactly what it is in platelets that nukes malaria. Therapeutic transfusions on any scale are simply impossible in other than the developed world. And Damn! can you think of how many people would need to step up and become donors.
I won a contest too! Over on the left - the link to Smart Bitches, Trashy Books. A fab blog and they have fun contests. This one was to do a recipe in a romantic/purple-prose/smutty fashion. Your's truly got the win Yay! I won an electric steamer/rice-cooker....and this web-infamous book. hee hee hee. Here's a link direct to the contest itself. I'm making some pseudo Asian influenced meatballs tonight. Yum!
Lazy weekend trying to avoid getting riled up at the news. Finding it hard to watch any of it except Fox News. Must enjoy it while I can before the "fairness" brown-shirts fuck it all up. And the 500K thing? That my salty pups is the first step to socilaism - because you know once the lib'rals get their talons into something they never let go. I have issues with POTUS taking editorial space. Also the gentleman has a temper. When (not if but when) he lets it fly on some sector of society that is/was a large part of his constituency (I'm guessing less-than-harvard-educated-women) the reactions will be interesting to say the least. Same time same channel. A gauge of brainwashedness.
